Putting talent to work

“No qualifications: no work experience”

Five words which condemn over 1 million young people to the prospect of lifelong unemployment. Five words which can consign generations to a legacy of worklessness, disadvantage and disenfranchisemen.

TAG Responds to Coalition Government’s £1bn Jobs Fund to Tackle Youth Unemployment

Commenting on Nick Clegg’s unveiling of a new initiative to tackle youth unemployment, Fred Turok, Founder and President of TAG said:

“Any initiative which stops one million young people sliding into lifelong unemployment, is very welcome. Any initiative which helps break the ‘no-work-so-no-experience-so-no-work’  cycle, is also very welcome.

But, the devil is in the detail. Is there sufficient confidence amongst employers to make this initiative work and, more importantly, where is the money coming from? If it is from, in effect  ‘taxing’ the most vulnerable in our society in the middle of a recession, then this might be too high a price to pay for a soundbite policy.

After all, we’re still waiting for the details of last week’s soundbite policy from Vince Cable.”

TAG Launches New Job Creation Programme

For 18-24 Year Old Jobseekers

TAG (Transforming A Generation), the training and employment charity, announced today that it has launched a new job creation programme developed specifically for London’s jobseekers aged 18-24 years old.

The first 50 candidates will start on TAG’s Job Creation Programme in December.

The TAG programme has been specifically developed to help jobseekers bridge the skills and experience gap between looking for a job and full time employment. In addition, TAG will use its extensive contacts in the health and fitness sector, to organise interviews for the jobseekers. Successful candidates’ skills pathway will comprise an Integrated Supported Learning Apprenticehsip, underpinned by tailored Mentoring programmes.

Working with the sucessful candidate for the duration of the TAG Apprenticeship, the Mentors are tasked with helping the candidate make a successful transition from unemployment into work.

Commenting on the launch of its new Job Creation Programme, TAG’s Chief Executive said “This recession and the crisis in business confidence has hit 18-24 year olds disproportionately.

“But the real tragedy is that many of those one million young jobseekers face the very real prospect of a lifetime without a job. The prospect of losing this raw talent forever is what drove us to launch our job creation programme. Our ambition is to create almost 1,000 jobs between now and next December.

“All we need now are your London jobseekers who want a career in the health and fitness sector.”
